Demand for CBI chief's exit in Lok Sabha

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Central Bureau of Investigation came in for criticism in the Lok Sabha today with demands for the agency chief's resignation and a statement from the prime minister.

Raising the recent indictment of the CBI by a Delhi court in the Priyadarshini Mattoo case, P R Das Munshi (Congress) said during zero hour that the prime minister, who supervises the agency, should come out with a statement on its lapses. He said the crime rate in Delhi has been steadily increasing over the last one-and-a-half years.

In the Priyadarshini Mattoo case, the CBI could not produce a key witness though he was present in his village, Munshi said. The witness was also not interrogated.

He said the CBI chief who has admitted to the lapses should step down from his post.

Roopchand Pal (Communist Party of India-Marxist) said the CBI in this case has failed miserably and had worked with the accused.
