Nine kids burnt alive near Jaipur

Nine children died and 12 received serious burns when a fire engulfed more than a dozen houses in Mudotha village under the Kalvar police station in Jaipur district of Rajasthan.

The fire broke out yesterday at around 1700 hours in 15 houses, mostly mud houses, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jaipur range I) Ajit Singh Shekhawat said.

The children, playing inside their houses, could not escape as the roofs collapsed. A three-year-old boy, among the four injured who were admitted to Sawai Mansingh hospital in Jaipur, succumbed later.

Some people, who rushed in to rescue the children, also sustained burns.

District Magistrate Srimat Pandey led a team of officials to the site for relief work.

An ex gratia of Rs 20,000 to the families of the dead, Rs 5,000 to those with severe burns and Rs 2,000 to those with minor burns has been sanctioned from the chief minister's relief fund.
