Agitation against UP Reorganisation BillThe Uttarakhand Kranti Dal proposes to launch an agitation from October 2 against the amendments moved by the Uttar Pradesh government to the Uttaranchal Bill. This was announced by UKD chief Kashi Singh Airi. Airi charged the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government with planning to control Uttarakhand's natural resources even after it becomes a separate state. The state government has moved 26 amendments in the Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Bill. He urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to prevail upon his coalition partners not to vote for the amendments in Parliament. UP should cease to have any right on Uttarakhand's resources once it becomes a state, and the new entity should be given a share in the property of the parent state in accordance with its area, Airi said. He also objected to the proposal that the name of the new state be Uttaranchal. The party will organise demonstrations and rallies at all district headquarters. UNI
