Floods hit 46 districts

Forty-six districts in Uttar Pradesh have been affected by floods, the latest being Moradafbad.

State Principal Secretary (home) Naresh Dayal said the waters of river Ramganga inundated 50 villages in the district.

Dayal said pumps were being brought from Gujarat to drain the water from Gorakhpur city. He said three pumps would reach Gorakhpur by September 5.

The swollen rivers of Gorakhpur are receding. However, they still remain above the danger level at many places. Around 300 patients suffering from encephalitis, gastro-enteritis and diarrhoea were admitted to various hospitals in the district, officials said. Additional District Magistrate P K Srivastava (finance) said in view of the increasing number of patients, the old jail near Sadar hospital was being prepared to serve as a makeshift hospital.

In the Khurja tehsil of Bulandshar district, six people died of infectious diseases caused by water logging. Fifty people have been taken seriously ill.
