Tamil film industry takes weekly to Press Council

In an unusual step the Tamil film industry has decided to lodge a complaint with the Press Council of India against the Tamil weekly magazine Kumudham for allegedly indulging in character assassination of film stars in a report in its latest issue.

The decision was taken at the consultative committee meeting held by the members of the Tamil film industry, veteran film directors K Balachander, Bharati Raja and Balu Mahendra announced at a press conference in Madras.

They appealed to the stars, directors and other artistes to boycott photographers working for the magazine.

They also announced that the film industry would sever its links with the magazine and issued a directive to the stars directors and others not to grant any interviews nor pen any articles for the magazine.

The Tamil film industry would not give any advertisements to the magazine and was also contemplating to move the courts to restrain it from publishing articles and photographs in connection with films.

The industry would also prevail upon film fans through fan clubs to stop buying the magazine, the directors said.

Those who violated these decisions would be "expelled" from the industry, they warned.
