Congress on a roll in Delhi, Rajasthan, MP

The Congress today secured a three-fourth majority in Rajasthan, a two-third majority in Delhi, and a majority in Madhya Pradesh.

However, the party's victory chariot was halted in Mizoram, where riding on an anti-incumbency wave, the Mizo National Front and the Mizoram People's Conference combine swept to power, securing 34 seats in the 40-member assembly. The Congress won only six seats in the state. Chief Minister Lathanhawla was one of the victims of the rout.

In Rajasthan, sweeping back to power after eight years, the Congress bagged 150 out of 197 assembly seats where polling was held on November 25. The Bharatiya Janata Party finished a distant second with just 33 seats.

Only eleven of the 39 members of the outgoing Bhairon Singh Shekhawat ministry, including the chief minister and Urban Development Minister Bhanwar Lal Sharma, were able to make it to the new House. As many as 28 ministers bit the dust.

In Delhi, in a clear reversal of the 1993 assembly verdict, the Congress won a two-thirds majority in the 70-member assembly, securing 51 of 68 seats.

In the 320-member Madhya Pradesh assembly the Congress has bagged 164 seats while the BJP won 114 of the 303 results declared so far.
