Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham general secretary J Jayalalitha has donated Rs 100,000 to Fatima Bi, winner of the United Nations award for her pioneering work among the rural folk in Kalva village in Andhra Pradesh.

Jayalalitha, who felicitated Fatima Bi on her achievement when the latter called on her in Madras last evening, made the donation to enable the award-winner to implement welfare programmes in her village, a statement from the AIADMK headquarters today said.

The statement said Jayalalitha also admitted Fatima Bi, sarpanch of her village council, into the party and made her secretary of the women's wing of the Andhra Pradesh AIADMK to enable her to serve the people, particularly the womenfolk, better.

The AIADMK leader, who presented Fatima Bi a shawl and a memento, accepted the latter's invitation to visit her village soon.
