UP adopts moral code

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement with immediate effect the Moral Code of Conduct for its Cabinet members, making it mandatory that they file details of property and income.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting.

Chief Secretary Yogendra Narain said that under the provisions of the code, all ministers are required to detail their assets within three months. They will also have to disclose their income every year by March 31 and dissociate themselves from any business being run in their name.

The chief minister has been authorised to take action against erring ministers.

The Centre had framed the Code of Conduct in 1992. In April, the Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a five-member committee to study the code. The current decision is in tune with the committee's recommendations.
