E-Mail this report to a friend

Samajwadi Party's Uttar Pradesh unit pesident Ramsharan Das has said the November 8 state bandh will now be organised by the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha.

As per earlier plans, the SP was to call the strike.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, he said a meeting of state office-bearers, legislators, MPs and district unit presidents would be held in the city on November 5 to review the preparations for the bandh.

SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav would address the meeting.

Das alleged that the poor were being harassed in the name of removing encroachments in Sitapur. The drive has left 200 families homeless, he said adding that 61 people, including party legislators Radheshyam Jaiswal, Ramesh Rahi, and state unit general secretary Geeta Singh, were put behind bars for opposing it.

He said his party had put up candidates for three nagar palika parishads and two nagar panchayats for the November 16 by-elections.

Das also announced the 10 newly elected presidents of SP's city units: Haji Mushtaq Solanki (Kanpur), Ziaullah (Firozabad), Murli Manohar (Hardwar), Bandu Hasan Ansari (Saharanpur), Moolchand Tyagi (Ghaziabad), Zamirhasan Khan (Farrukhabad), Kanhaiyyalal Gupta (Varanasi), Dr Nooralam (Allahabad), Fakhir Siddiqui (Lucknow) and Abbas (Meerut).
