Subject: Virendra Kapoor on educating M M Joshi

It is a good commentary and a balanced report on the Union minister's mistakes. Hopefully, he and the BJP will learn from these mistakes. We also learned how ugly and anti-Hindu our 'leftist-secularist' gang is. They had previously joined with the Muslims in protesting against the singing of the national song Vande Mataram, as idol-worshipping.

These secularists gave aid and comfort to M F Husain, who insulted Hindus by painting their goddess Saraswati in the nude in the name of freedom of expression and art. Now they have no shame in walking out of Saraswati Vandana. They should know 85 per cent of Indians are Hindus and they will not forever bear insults to their dharmic religion.

Subject: Interview with Purshottam Das Chitlangia

Everywhere around the globe we see some problem regarding religion, colour, race, etc. India was secular for quite some time. But as soon as the RSS and VHP started gaining ground, the atrocities started. Chitlangia says India is the only country where all religions are equal. That is not true. In countries like the USA, there is no talk of religion in government in any form. I feel in the USA all religions are treated equally than in India at any point of time. As Chitlangia says, we cannot go on adding religious values into text. If you go into Hindu mythic, lot of things are against our Indian tradition. Already the government in Rajasthan and UP has started twisting history. It is high time we put a full stop to twisting history in the name of religion.

Subject: George Iype's report

George Iype betrays nothing in an attempt to portray the BJP as devil incarnate. First of all, the BJP expects to win back MP. Mizoram probably doesn't even figure in the party's list of winnable states. So a statement like BJP facing a rout in Mizoram is full of pre-meditated bias. The BJP is definitely not facing rout in MP.

Statements like 'factionalism is "rife" in the MP units.' Where does that come from? Is it an attempt to say that other parties are well placed with their list of candidates. But why look at others, political games are played this way. Why only target the BJP?

This is a reiteration of what many people have said. India has not seen a CM like Chandrababu Naidu. In the midst of people like Subramanian Swamy, Jayalalitha, J H Patel and other non-performers, he does look like a great chief minister. There is at least one person in India who believes that India can do it!! I am heartened to note this. Will those political barons and so-called parties working to uplift the poor wake up and listen? They have one example to emulate.

Maruti's attempts to lure customers by offering to pick up the vehicles for service and dropping it at their door, are welcome. But Indian car manufacturers are far from attractive. Most of the US makers/sellers offer a bumper to bumper 3 year or 36,000 miles warrantee on their vehicles. I think, Indian car makers do not give this kind or equivalent warrantee.

Can Maruti take a lead in such a manner?

I am a great fan of yours as I don't miss any one of your articles. I work in the USA and I am a die-hard cricket fan. Your article on Harbhajan Singh was excellent. Are your articles read by the Indian cricket board? I think it is absolutely necessary for them to read the article. They should know what they are doing. We don't want to lose this young, talented off-spinner. I think you have done your part of the work.

Indian selection is known for its knee-jerk response. The problem with specialist openers needs to be dealt creatively and carefully. I am unwilling to write Sidhu off completely as yet; but even his avid fans would agree that he probably has just one more year of Test cricket left in him. Also, we should not forget that Azhar is also nearing the end of his career.

In any case, even in the very short term, India needs at least one more test opener. Can we get another opener from the "vast pool of batting talent" at home which comprises such technicians as Rathore, Somasundar and Khoda? While it is a possibility, our experiments in the past have been very discouraging. Of course, this does not mean that we should stop experimenting.

However, I see a better alternative. India has very good middle order talent. Besides fine young players like Sachin, Saurav and Dravid (who are young and should serve the team for a long time to come), we have potential middle order bats like Jadeja, Kambli and Laxman.

The problem is with openers. Among the above list, two names come to my mind as possible candidates for promotion from the middle to the top -- Ganguly and Laxman. I leave out Dravid because he is in my estimate, the finest one down batsman in Test cricket and I would like to leave him there.

Of course, Ganguly is a splendid bat himself, but I think he is better utilised at number 2 or 3. Even according to Ian Chappel, he is one of the best players in the world outside the off. He has some problems with short deliveries speared into his body, but I do feel that he can work this out.

Laxman is a fine, technically sound, batsman. He has been given plenty of chances; he has utilised some, but has so far been plagued by soft dismissals. In any case, if the management places faith on him, it will pay in the long run.

If this works out, India will have two fine batsmen opening the innings with the likes of Dravid, Sachin, Jadeja and Kambli to follow. As I see it, the fundamental problem with Indian batting has been an inability to find good openers, who can play high quality fast bowling on foreign soil, with the glorious exception of Sunil Gavaskar. The only solution seems to lie in promoting good middle order batsmen who have already been exposed to plenty of cricket on foreign soil, to open the innings.

India has had a good supply of middle order batsmen, though. Therefore, the void left by say a Ganguly in the middle order can be filled quite easily by someone like Jadeja or Kambli, or may be some fresh talent. It is my firm belief that middle order batsmen from domestic cricket do far better in Tests than openers. Indian domestic cricket is just not a successful breeding ground for quality opening batsmen.

What do these actors think of themselves? Killing wildlife? They should be put behind bars for six years. Mohnish and Mahesh Thakur refused to go, why didn't Sonali refuse? Tabu and Sonali wanted deer meat. How much of an animal can one get? I thought Tabu had become vegetarian? I won't watch a single movie of these so-called stars again

The cruelty shown towards the animals is unforgivable. I don't think the rich will be ever punished in India. I have never seen it before and I don't anticipate it this time. I am sure these people will be released with no charges. This is the fate of our beloved country.
