Kalyan Singh has a close shaveUttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh escaped an attempt on his life yesterday when a bomb was recovered a few hours after his departure from the Varanasi Circuit House. Home Secretary N Ravishankar told newspersons in Lucknow that the chief minister left the place in the afternoon. The police had been informed the previous night itself that a bomb had been planted near the wall of the circuit house, and following a search the bomb, with a remote control device, was recovered later. He said explosive experts had been called in from Agra to check the device, and their report was awaited. Ravishankar said the police personnel posted at the site had been suspended for the lapse in security. Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police (security) V K Singh has been entrusted with the job of investigating the matter. The security of the chief minister has also been further beefed up in view of the incident. UNI
