Another son of the soil

Ramesh Bais, the Bharatiya Janata Party Madhya Pradesh unit's former vice-president, is a man of the soil.

An agriculturist, he was born on August 2, 1948, in Raipur district. He was a Raipur municipal councillor from 1978 to 1983, and a member of the Madhya Pradesh assembly from 1980 to 1985.

He has also served on different committees including the public accounts committee and consultative committee under the ministry of steel and mines. He was chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Seeds and Farm Development Corporation from 1992 to 1993.

Bais was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1989. He served as MP unit vice-president for two terms, from 1989-90 and 1994-96. From 1993, he has been a member of the BJP national executive.

Actively associated with organising health camps, Bais has evinced a keen interest in rural development programmes and sports competitions.
