DK leads protest against Kanchi seer's views on widows

More than 100 Dravidar Kazhagam volunteers today staged a demonstration near the Sankara Mutt in Kanchipuram in protest against the alleged remarks of the Shankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, comparing widows with fallow land.

According to reports, the demonstrators were led by DK deputy general secretary K Swamidurai and women's wing leaders Parvathi and Arulmozhi.

They shouted slogans for half an hour demanding that the Kanchi Mutt head withdraw the remarks allegedly made by him in an interview to a leading Madras-based Tamil daily which was published in its Diwali special issue last year.
