Five DMK candidates file RS nominations

All the five candidates of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam today filed their nomination papers for the forthcoming biennial election to the Rajya Sabha from the Tamil Nadu assembly.

They are: S Viduthalai Virumbi, M Agniraj, S Sivasubramaniam, M Sankaralingam and M A Khader.

While Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and nine other legislators proposed the candidature of Vidhuthalai Virumbi, state ministers K Anbhazhagan, Arcot N Veerasamy and Nanjil K Manoharan and city mayor M K Stalin proposed the candidature of the other four nominees.

Former Union minister and DMK parliamentary party leader Murasoli Maran, state Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasamy and deputy speaker of the state assembly Paruthi Ilamvazhuthi and top DMK leaders were present when the candidates submitted their nomination papers to assembly secretary D Solomon Jayapal.

Tomorrow is the last day for filing of nominations.

The Tamil Maanila Congress, an ally of the DMK, which would be able to win one seat on its own, is yet to file its nomination.
