Tension in village as dalits are kept out of car festival

Prohibitory orders were clamped in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu today in the wake of tension after dalits were disallowed to participate in the temple car festival at Kandadevi village in the district.

More than 2000 policemen were deployed all over the district for maintaining law and order, police sources said.

Inspector General of Police (law and order) Subbaya and IG (southern region) Manoharan are camping in the district.

People of the Kallar community, a dominant backward caste, had objected to the participation of DALITS in the festival and pulling the temple car.
