Kalyan Singh undoes Mayawati's work on new districtsThe Uttar Pradesh government has decided to scrap some newly-created districts, most of them formed during the tenure of the Mayawati government. At a cabinet meeting held in Lucknow today, it was decided to set up a five-member sub-committee to prepare the modalities for scrapping the new districts. The state revenue minister has been made the convenor of the committee, which will review the reorganising of a total of 17 new districts and submit an early report. Mayawati, during her chief ministership, had created new districts of Mahamayanagar, Balrampur, Santkabirnagar, Shravasti, Ambedkarnagar, Rudraprayag, Udham Singh Nagar, Gautambuddh Nagar, Baghpat, Jyotibaphule Nagar, Santravidas Nagar and Chandauli. The Kaushambi district was formed by the Mulayam Singh government. An official spokesman said the cabinet had also decided to wind up the newly-created divisions. There are 83 districts and 19 divisions in the state. The Kath tehsil of Jyotibaphule Nagar has been abolished and 16 villages of Deoria districts included in Khushinagar district. Also 173 villages of Jyotibaphule Nagar have been include in Moradabad district. The cabinet today also effected complete ban on the sale of all kinds of lotteries in the state in compliance with the high court order passed on Friday last. UNI
