DMK plans stir against attempt to protect Jayalalitha

E-Mail this report to a friend

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu has asked party members to organise public meetings across the state to condemn the Centre's alleged attempt to rescue former chief minister Jayalalitha Jayaram and her colleagues from corruption cases.

In a statement, party general secretary and Education Minister K Anbazhagan directed the party units to also invite to the meetings leaders of the party's allies.

The meetings should be organised in conformity with the DMK's utmost respect for the judiciary, he stressed.

Anbazhagan recalled that Chief Minister and party president Muthuvel Karunanidhi had unequivocally stated his stand on the issue. He added that the Centre's attempt to save Jayalalitha had also been condemned by the Tamil Maanila Congress, the Communist Party of India, the CPI-Marxist, the Janata Dal and others.
