Six accused in Pudukkottai incident surrender

E-Mail this report to a friend

Six people, wanted for tonsuring and parading three dalit youths in Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai district on November 13, have surrendered before the protection of civil rights court at Tiruchirapalli.

They have been remanded to judicial custody.

The incident occurred in Thennalur-Achinaickenpatti village. The dalit youths had married girls from another caste. The humiliation was their punishment for this 'crime.'

On a complaint from the youths, the police had registered a case against 10 villagers and arrested four.

Meanwhile, over 100 people belonging to the Ambedkar Youth Movement and the Dalit Panthers of India demonstrated in Pudukottai in protest against the delay in police action.
