'You think politicians care about India?'How Readers reacted to Arvind Lavakare's recent columnsDate sent: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 10:12:13 -0800 (PST)From: Sunil Kumar <sunilk@sipi.usc.edu> Subject: The BJP needs to shed its groping and goofing The article is very interesting. The BJP definitely needs to learn PR management. The mention of innovative schools run by the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is very timely. I have been sponsoring a tribal child in one such school for the last 3 years and the cost is only Rs 3,000 per annum. I am also provided with the photograph, address and progress report of the child regularly. It is unfortunate that such innovative schemes could not be discussed at the education ministers conference. Keep it up, Arvind.

I cannot stop laughing at this article. Besides being simplistic, the author has no clue about India's geography. He claims Ujjain is in Rajasthan. Last heard, Ujjain was part of Madhya Pradesh. Saif

I read your article. It sounds too sensible for a politician :-) Why would s/he want to work hard at solving people's problems, when she/he can fly around at people's expense, try to ram their ideology down the public's throat, take bribes from sundry industrialists and underworld figures? Your article presupposes that these people actually care a hoot (Mr Vajpayee might be an exception). You think they care? All they are interested in is to feather their own nests and when they get into trouble they start spouting slogans about democracy and fair play. Vivek Jain |
