Court refuses to monitor CBI probe into murder of JMM leader's secretary

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Delhi high court today declined to monitor any further, the Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the 'abduction and murder' of Shashi Nath Jha, secretary to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren, after the agency filed its final status report saying that it had chargesheeted seven persons and was investigating the case against several others.

Disposing of the habeas corpus petition filed by Jha's mother Priyambada Devi, a division bench, comprising Justices Devinder Gupta and Mukul Mudgal, said since the chargesheet has already been filed in the trial court and probe against certain others was going on, no further proceedings or monitoring in the matter was required by the high court.

Counsel for CBI A K Dutt submitted that the probe against Soren's driver Rajinder Singh, who has been absconding, and certain unknown persons was being carried out and a chargesheet has already been filed. Hence there was no reason for the high court to continue with the matter and it should be disposed of.
