MDMK favours unconditional support to Vajpayee govt

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazagham general secretary Vaiko says he has conveyed to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham supremo J Jayalalitha that his party is for extending unconditional support to the Atal Bihari Vajpayeee government.

Vaiko said even at the August 13 meeting of the front he had told Jayalalitha that his party would discuss the question of continued support to the BJP-led government at the Centre and intimate her of the outcome.

The meeting of the patry's political affairs committee and the district secretaries on August 15 had adopted a resolution pledging total and unconditional support to the Vajpayee government, Vaiko said. This was conveyed to Jayalalitha when he called on her that evening itself, he said yesterday.

Vaiko's statement comes in the wake of Janata Party chief Dr Subramanian Swamy's allegation that the front constituents, after authorising Jayalalitha on August 13 to take a decision on the question of supporting the Vajpayee government, had announced independent decisions without even consulting her. Dr Swamy had aslo wanted them to explain reasons for this.

Meanwhile, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder leader Dr S Ramadoss will participate in the September 15 rally, organised by the MDMK to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dravidian leader C N Annadurai. The rally will be attended by Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Kishinchand Advani, Vaiko said.
