UP tightens cow slaughter rulesWith a view to providing protection to cows and stop cow slaughter and smuggling of the animal, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement effectively and strictly the Cow Slaughter (Prevention ) Act in the state. All the necessary guidelines in this connection had been issued to the divisional commissioners, district magistrates and concerning officers/ employees. Disclosing this, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Gorakh Prasad Nishad yesterday said that some complaints had been received about cow slaughter and their illegal transportation. Nishad said all the necessary information -- including the number of animals, their gender, breed, quantity of food, name and address of the sender and recipient -- should be displayed on the vehicle. He said the state government would ensure that the number of adult animals being transported in each vehicle was not more than six and that food, water and medical facilities were available to them enroute.
