Forward Bloc leader Perumal is dead

All India Forward Bloc chairman A R Perumal died at Arupukottai in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu early today. He was 73, and is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.

Perumal, who had represented Aruppukottai in the Tamil Nadu assembly for two terms from 1967 to 1976, had been ailing for some time.

The funeral took place at Arupukottai this evening.

Condoling his death, party state unit general secretary L Santhanam said party flags would fly at half-mast throughout the state for one week as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
