At the turn of the millennium, there was a sea change in Bollywood.

While masala movies were still in vogue along with 'NRI films', there were newer subjects being explored.

Joginder Tuteja looks at the Top 10 movies of 2000.

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai
Box office collections: Rs 44 crore

He came, he saw, he conquered.

A star was born when Hrithik Roshan arrived with a bang in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.

Daddy Rakesh Roshan made sure he gave his all to the film which became a blockbuster.

Ameesha Patel made her debut in this romantic, musical, action drama.

Mohabbatein
Box office collections: Rs 42 crore

Aditya Chopra's second directorial venture after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge carried huge expectations. Especially since Shah Rukh Khan spearheaded the movie.

With Aishwarya Rai playing a 'friendly ghost', Mohabbatein -- with its university setting -- also benefited from Amitabh Bachchan's towering presence.

Mission Kashmir
Box office collections: Rs 23 crore

Yet another film with Hrithik in the lead, Mission Kashmir was a star-studded affair with Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Preity Zinta.

The film opened huge, but could not sustain for long.

Still, it was a hit.

Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge
Box office collections: Rs 19 crore

NRI films were in vogue and David Dhawan graduated to making glossy films that also catered to class audiences.

Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor came together in this family comedy that did quite well at the box office.

Refugee
Box office collections: Rs 17 crore

Abhishek Bachchan made his debut in the same year as Hrithik.

His leading lady was Kareena Kapoor in J P Dutta's Refugee.

The film opened quite well, but could not sustain. Still, it was a success.

Josh
Box office collections: Rs 18 crore

Mansoor Khan had made films with cousin Aamir Khan, so tongues wagged when Shah Rukh Khan stepped in for Josh.

Aishwarya Rai played Shah Rukh's sister in the film, in the same year when they were seen romantically opposite each other in Mohabbatein.

The film opened well and was an average success.

Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega
Box office collections: Rs 15 crore

In the feel good films that Salman Khan was doing, he stepped in the romantic musical drama Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega with leading ladies, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta.

A Sajid Nadiadwala production, this one was a family affair with memorable songs.

Shah Rukh Khan's cameo was a major surprise and elevated the film's fortunes.

Fiza
Box office collections: Rs 15 crore

2000 was the year of offbeat pairings and hence, many were surprised when Hrithik and Karisma were seen as siblings in Fiza.

Jaya Bachchan played their mother in this Khalid Mohammad film which opened quite well owing to Hrithik's popularity right after Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.

Made on a restricted budget, this one was a decent earner.

Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai
Box office collections: Rs 15 crore

After making Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hai with Kajol, film-maker Satish Kaushik paired Anil Kapoor with Aishwarya Rai for Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai.

A romantic drama with some good songs, it was boosted by multiple comic tracks that played alongside.

The film was a clean hit, keeping Anil Kapoor's record intact.

Badal
Box office collections: Rs 15 crore

Bobby Deol was busy churning out commercial action entertainers at this time.

One such film was Badal where he had Rani Mukerji for company.

Director Raj Kanwar had faced a flop with Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, but enjoyed a double bill success in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Badal, both of which belonged to different genres.
