Saif Ali Khan's TOP 10 HITS

Saif Ali Khan, who's all set to be a daddy for the fourth time, turns 50 on August 16.

The actor made his acting debut when he was only 23 in Parampara, and since then, it's been a roller coaster ride for him.

He has worked in about 60 odd films as a leading man, and still counting.

Joginder Tuteja looks at his top money-spinners over the years.

 

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior
Box office collection: Rs 280 crore

2020 has been a good year for Saif, as he got a big hit with Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior after a spate of flops.

Though he played the antagonist opposite Ajay Devgn in the film, he had a solid part.

 

Hum Saath Saath Hain
Box office collection: Rs 40 crore

A Sooraj Barjatya film where he was one of the three main leads, apart from Salman Khan and Mohnish Behl, Saif provided the fun in Hum Saath Saath Hai.

 

Race 2
Box office collection: Rs 100 crore

Saif took off from where he left off in Race and shared the stage with John Abraham in the sequel.

The film wasn't as entertaining as the first in the series, but did well.

 

Cocktail
Box office collection: Rs 76 crore

The last solo superhit delivered by Saif, Cocktail, saw Saif in a love triangle with Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.

Everything worked in this rom com, including the chartbuster music.

 

Love Aaj Kal
Box office collection: Rs 67 crore

Before Cocktail, Saif and Deepika had come together in Imitaz Ali's Love Aaj Kal.

Saif had a double role in the film.

His daughter Sara Ali Khan featured in the re-dux version with Kartik Aaryan.

 

Race
Box office collection: Rs 61 crore

A typical Abbas-Mustan thriller, Saif looked suave in Race, a crackling action thriller.

The plot had a role tailor-made for Saif as he took on Akshaye Khanna and Katrina Kaif in this 'race' of double and triple crosses.

 

Kal Ho Naa Ho
Box office collection: Rs 36 crore

A triangular love story with just the right mix of romance, comedy, music and tragedy, Saif excelled in this Nikkhil Advani directorial co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta.

Saif held his ground and ensured a major hit to his name.

 

Hum Tum
Box office collection: Rs 22 crore

Hum Tum came at a time when Saif was delivering hit after hit.

A love story with Rani Mukerji, the film was directed by Kunal Kohii.

 

Ta Ra Rum Pum
Box office collection: Rs 40 crore

Yet another film featuring Saif and Rani was Ta Ra Rum Pum, directed by Siddharth Anand.

This had action in the form of Formula One race, told family style.

 

Kya Kehna
Box office collection: Rs 12 crore

Saif had shades of grey in Kya Kehna, a story about unexpected pregnancy. Preity Zinta and Chandrachur Singh co-starred in the film.

The film was an unexpected hit at the box office.

 

Dil Chahta Hai
Box office collection: Rs 20 crore

One of Saif's best performances, Dil Chahta Hai introduced a new grammar of film-making was born.

Saif seemed to find his bearings with this Farhan Akhtar directorial, which focused on him just as much as it focused on Aamir Khan and Akshaye Khanna.

 

Salaam Namaste
Box office collection: Rs 30 crore

After Dil Chahta Hai, Saif started getting more comfortable with his skin.

From Kya Kehna to Salaam Namaste, it was quite a journey for him and Preity Zinta, as the action moved to Australia.

The film took another look at pregnancy.

 

Kachche Dhaage
Box office collection: Rs 16 crore

An action drama which introduced Milan Luthria to Bollywood, Kachche Dhaage was a masala affair with Saif and Ajay Devgn.

 

Main Khiladi Tu Anari
Box office collection: Rs 8 crore

The 'khiladi' was business-like while the 'anari' was goofy, and Saif didn't mind stepping into the latter part.

He was a laugh riot in this action comedy with Akshay Kumar, and the film took a very good opening at the box office.

Later, the duo starred in Tu Chor Main Sipahi.

 

Yeh Dillagi
Box office collection: Rs 6 crore

Before Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Saif had already delivered a hit with Akshay in the form of Yeh Dillagi.

In that film, Akshay was relatively serious while Saif was a playboy.

The film gave Saif the biggest ever chartbuster of his career, Ole Ole.
