'Why release the old Chashme Baddoor with the new one?'

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta slammed Jayshree Makhija, the co-producer of the 1981 film Chashme Buddoor, for releasing the original digitally-restored film on the same day as David Dhawan's remake.

'Old Chashme Baddoor has been digitally remastered and releasing next week I heard. Kya yaar? What about the new one then? Makhija family sells the remake rights of Chashme Baddoor and then remasters n releases the original just ahead of the remake. Remasterplan,' he tweeted.

'Poor Gul Anand, the nicest producer I've ever known must be turning in his grave over what his inheritors are doing with Chashme Baddoor. I can totally understand Sai Paranjpe feeling totally betrayed by the Makhija family over their parasitical behavior on Chashme Baddoor,' he added.

But that's not all.

'Studio buys it, makes it, promotes it n they come outta nowhere to release it the same day. Studio should take legal action. But having personally dealt with Mrs. Makhija this comes as no surprise. Ethical business practise and her are poles apart,' he added further in a reply to Ekta Kapoor.

The remake version, directed by David Dhawan, and the original digitally-restored film both release on April 5.
