When it comes to the Oscars, stars always pull out all stops in the looks department.
The excitement starts at the red carpet, which sees most of the action. Fans and critics alike are agog to see who is wearing what, and whether their outfits pass muster.
And while stars mostly get it right, there are times when they don't. For example, there's nothing worse for an actress than wearing the same style. A case in point is Naomi Watts' Escada gown with dropped sleeves which she wore to the 79th Annual Academy Awards.
The gown bears a striking resemblance to Cate Blanchett's pale yellow Valentino gown with burgundy accents, which she wore to the 77th Annual Academy Awards. Even the hairstyles are the same.

These two ladies have got us stumped. Both look smashing in Chanel black gowns.
But to give credit where it's due, Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi rocked the carpet first when she wore hers to the 79th Annual Academy Awards, just a year before Penelope Cruz chose Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel for the 80th annual Academy Awards.

We got to hand it to Katherine Heigl. Her scarlet Escada was the talking point at the 80th Annual Academy Awards red carpet. A year later, Virginia Madsen decided to do the same in this Kevan Hall creation.

Amy Adams may have worn her Proenza Schouler strapless black gown first at the 80th Annual Academy Awards. But it is Angelina Jolie, a year later in an Elie Saab dress who we prefer.

Both Marisa Tomei and Kate Winslet wore identical necklines for the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
We prefer Kate's slate blue and black Atelier Yves Saint Laurent gown to Tomei's Versace one-shoulder creation.

Okay, so these two are not exactly carbon copies of each other.
But you have to admit that the colour and the one shoulder detail are similar. Our pick has to be Freida Pinto's John Galliano one-shouldered blue gown over Maggie Gyllenhall's navy blue and black outfit.
