It's been one helluva rollercoster ride for everybody associated with the Harry Potter franchise -- the people who created it, brought it on screen and the legions of fans that have waited with bated breath for each of the releases, book and film.

One of the best things about the Harry Potter series is the fine detailing that's been laboured in the narrative. For instance, despite the massive cast, almost all characters are so nicely etched out -- they have their own quirks, individual personalities and even back stories that give us an insight into the people they are.

And we are sure all Potter fans have that one favourite character out of the whole team.

Harry Potter

He's the boy who lived! He's the one around whom the whole story revolves and he's a legend who's acquired a family in his friends and a home in Hogwarts.

Though he's hailed as the only one who can destroy Voldemort, Harry has certain human attributes that make him endearing. You feel like holding his hand when he first steps in Diagon Alley, you want to hug him when he misses his parents and you squeal with joy over his victories.

Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger may be a muggle but she's one of the best students at Hogwarts and anybody can vouch for that. She also acts like a mother hen with the boys -- fretting over their safety or decisions.

She has a quick fix for everything and has come to Ron and Harry's rescue quite a few times.

Ron Weasley

Ron is the underacheiving, slightly goofy best friend of Harry's. But his loyalty to his friends is commendable. He's always stood by Harry in difficult times and considers Harry's battles his own.

Draco Malfoy

Draco is that school bully we've all come across at some point. Of course, he's mostly all talk but he does wield immense authority among his peers.

Fred and George Weasley

The famous Weasley twins are a nightmare for the school administration as they are always up to some mischief or magic trick.

They bring respite during tense moments and are just two naughty kids just having fun.

Ginny Weasley

Ginny is the red-haired, freckled sister of Ron. She's most ladylike even in her early years and very composed. No wonder then Harry falls in love with her, and goes on to marry her.

Albus Dumbledore

The voice of reason and a guiding force in the series, Dumbledore is the father figure who's loved and respected by everybody.

Lord Voldemort

Harry Potter's arch enemy Voldemort is as vicious as they come. He's obsessed with making the world muggle-free and has his army of Death Eaters to help him achieve it. But first, he must kill Harry.

Severus Snape

Snape is a Potions teacher at Hogwarts and no one really knows where his loyalties lie until the end of the series.

He's not really popular as a teacher but he stands proof to the saying that looks can be deceptive. He's been helping Harry all along, even being a trusted ally to Dumbedore.

Rubeus Hagrid

Benevolent half-giant Hagrid is probably one of the more loved characters. He's good friends with Harry and his friends, and comes across as very sensitive and gentle despite that gigantic appearance.

Sirius Black

Sirius Black was the closest Harry ever got to having a family. He wasn't just his parents' best friend, he was Harry's godfather.

Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin was James Potter and Sirius Black's best friend in their younger days.

Later, he taught Defence Against The Dark Arts at Hogwarts until Severus Snape revealled that he was a werewolf. He was then forced to leave the school but remained by Harry's side till the end to help him overcome Voldemort.

Mad-Eye-Moody

Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody is the most renowned Auror of all time. A no-nonsense kind of person, Moody tries his best to protect Harry, and sadly, dies in the process.

Bellatrix Lestrange

Bellatrix Lestrange is the most fierce Death Eater in the history of the magic world and the most devout follower of Lord Voldemort. She kills people without a hint of remorse and is capable of going to any length to serve her master.

Dudley Dursley

Dudley is Hary Potter's chubby spoilt cousin, and Vernon and Petunia's only son. He bullies Harry while he's staying with them and is prone to throwing tantrums when his demands are not met.
