Here's what Tiger Shroff has in common with Ranbir Kapoor and Salman Khan.

Star kids are usually launched by celebrity parents in their home banners, as is seen in the cases of Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol and Hrithik Roshan.

But there have been many instances when star kids were not launched by their daddies, instead they were launched by close friends or prominent producers.

Like, Jackie Shroff's hunky son Tiger, who will be launched by Sajid Nadiadwala in this Friday's release, Heropanti.

We take a look back at 10 major actors, who decided to prove their mettle outside their home banners.

Tiger's parents, Jackie and Ayesha Shroff, had turned producers with films like Grahan and Boom, both box office duds.

Given his standing in the film industry, Jackie Shroff could well have produced a film for his son. But the family decided to put their faith in Sajid Nadiadwala, with Tiger's big star launch.

Let's see how Heropanti turns out.

Salman's father Salim Khan was one of the most successful writers of his time, thanks to his blockbusters like Sholay and Deewar.

He could have launched his son Salman Khan, but chose not to.

Salman made a modest debut as a supporting actor in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi, but was re-launched with much fanfare in the Rajshri production, Maine Pyaar Kiya. The film was a superhit.

Today, Salman is busy launching other careers through his production house.

There was much speculation that Amitabh Bachchan's production house ABCL would launch his son Abhishek.

Eventually, it was J P Dutta, who came on board and directed-produced Refugee, co-starring Kareena Kapoor.

The film was made on a grand canvas, but managed to make only average business at the box office.

Randhir Kapoor's daughter Kareena had the prestigious RK banner behind her but its almost defunct status meant that an outsider filmmaker had to launch her.

The actress signed Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai but walked out midway, making way for Ameesha Patel.

Finally, she made her debut with Refugee.

Ranbir Kapoor

Like Kareena, Ranbir Kapoor had to pass up the RK banner as well.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali rose to the occasion and decided to create a star launchpad for him, with Saawariya.

A much hyped affair, Saawariya was in the news right through its making.

Bad reviews and stiff competition from Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om, which released on the same day, resulted in a flop for the film.

Sonam Kapoor

Though dad Anil Kapoor has produced quite a few films and uncle Boney Kapoor is one of the most prominent producers of the industry, Sonam was launched by Bhansali, in Saawariya.

The result, of course, was not something Sonam is proud of.

Arjun Kapoor

Boney Kapoor did not even launch his own son Arjun Kapoor, as the latter claimed that he did not want to be a burden on his father.

Yash Raj Films launched him with the tragic love story, Ishaqzaade.

An unconventional debut, Arjun started his career with grey shades, and this rustic adaptation of Romeo & Juliet was well accepted by the audience.

Varun Dhawan

With 40 films behind him, one would have expected filmmaker David Dhawan to create a star launchpad for his son Varun.

That did not happen.

Instead, Karan Johar roped him in for Student of the Year.

The actor was clearly a star in the making and took complete advantage of the platform provided to him.

David Dhawan then directed him in his second film, Main Tera Hero, which was also a hit.

Student Of The Year was a smash hit, and helped Alia enter the big league.

Though her family hasn't produced too many films, Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi had seen the making of Mera Dil Leke Dekho quite closely.

But she preferred to make her debut in Arbaaz Khan's Dabangg, starring Salman Khan.

The film was a complete package affair for Sonakshi, and the actress is one of the top stars in the industry today.
