WATCH: The Bol Bachchan Trailer

Once in a while a trailer comes along and you wonder just why it did. Why would we not have better off with just a release date on a poster? Because this trailer for Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan feels like a dare.

We've made this monstrosity, says Shetty (after first boasting of his previous pieces of, um, hit) and now we dare you to come see it. Dekh ke dikha do seems the gist of this awful, awful trailer, one pointing to a film that'll make Priyadarshan's recent bunch look smart.

We were told this was going to be a remake of
Hrishikesh Mukherjee's immortal Golmaal. Blasphemous as the thought remains of Ajay Devgn stepping into Utpal Dutt's moustache-revering shoes and Abhishek Bachchan playing Amol Palekar's everyman, thoughts of the original leave us instantly as we see something loud, foul and bizarrely full of slow-motion punches. Think Singham meets Dostana, except they're using lines Anees Bazmee discarded as outtakes.

Devgn's playing some sort of caricatured tooth-gnashing slaphappy buffoon, a role we don't normally associate with A-listers (and specially those that produce the film), while Abhishek oscillates between effete and, um, effete?

Asin and Prachi Desai are the only two actresses that could fit naturally into this environment, while poor Archana Puran Singh looks like a drag impersonation of herself.

Shetty might yet surprise us, but for now this trailer just spells out a migraine.
