Kunhi Mohammed's Veeraputhran releases today

National award winning director P T Kunhi Mohammed of Paradeshi, Magrib and Garshom fame is getting ready with his new film Veeraputhran which releases today.

It is based on the life of the legendary freedom fighter Mohammed Abdu Rahman Sahib (1898-1945).

P T Kunhi Mohammed was a member of the Kerala legislative assembly and has been anchoring the popular programme Pravasalokam on Kairali TV.

Actor Narain is doing the title role of the great leader, who was an orator and writer and known for his secular outlook.

Prithviraj was supposed to do the title role originally, but when he opted out, Narain stepped in.

Narain has not done Malayalam films for a while now and he hopes to make his comeback with a bang.

Raima Sen plays the role of Kunhi Beevathu, the wife of Mohammed Abdu Rahman Sahib.

The cast also includes Sarath Kumar, Kalabhavan Mani, Siddique and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy.

The film is based on a story by N P Mohammed.

M J Radhakrishnan has handled the camera and Don Max is the editor. The music has been composed by Pandit Ramesh Narayan.

The film focuses on the life of Mohammed Abdu Rahman Sahib after he reaches Kerala having discontinued his studies at Aligarh. He was 23 years old then. Several golden moments from the history of Kerala discussed in the history books will be shown in the film.

Mohammed Abdu Rahman Sahib was the president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. According to the makers of the film, 'the story travels through Mohammed Abdu Rahman Sahib's desperate failure in the election of 1934, the thrilling win that reclaims his position in the election of 1937, and the departure of his soul mate, whose wardrobe he carries with him as an un-detachable remembrance.'

The film is the story of the successes and sorrows in a man's life. Mohammed Abdu Rahman Sahib confronted the British Empire on many occasions and fought to liberate his nation and his people.

He provided much creative material to historians, poets, novelists and a growing number of politicians.
