Filmmakers find Sankranthi a good time to release films as there are holidays on account of the festival.
Two Telugu films, Naayak and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, release on January 9 and 11 respectively.
Mirchi and the Telugu dubbed version Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam was also slated to release in the festival period but has now been postponed.

The film is produced by Danayya. For the first time Ram Charan is being directed by V V Vinayak.
Ram Charan plays a double role in this action entertainer. He is paired with Kajal Aggarwal for the second time, the first being Magadheera. Amala Paul too shares space with him for the first time.
Rahul Dev, Brahmanandam, Raghubabu, M S Narayana, and J P Reddy are others in the cast. Akula Siva has scripted the film, Kona Venkat is the dialogue writer, S.S. Thaman scores the music and Chota K Naidu is the cinematographer.
Naayak has a song Subhalekha Raasukunna from Chiranjeevi's Kondaveeti Donga which has been remixed. Charmee Kaur has performed an item number in the film.
Naayak is said to revolve around a son who tries to realise his father's ambition. The film is shot in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Slovenia and Iceland.

This film has been in the news ever since it was announced. It's the first time that two big superstars, Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu, are coming together.
It's a multi-starrer and expectations are running high for this film.
'Dil' Raju is producing the film that has been scripted and directed by Srikkanth Addala (who also directed Kotha Bangaru Lokam).
SVSC is the story of two brothers played by the two superstars. While Anjali is cast opposite Venkatesh, Samantha is paired with Mahesh Babu (their second after the successful Dookudu).
Prakash Raj and Jayasudha play the parents. The others in the cast include Rohini Hattangady, Tanikella Bharani, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Venu Madhav, Rao Ramesh, Ahuti Prasad, Brahmaji and Abhinaya.
The music has been composed by Mickey J Meyer, while Mani Sharma does the background score. K V Guhan handles the camera and Marthand K Venkatesh is the editor.
"SVSC is a clean film with wonderful emotions and good music. Everyone will identify with its emotions. Everyone is playing character-oriented roles in the film," said Venkatesh.
SVSC, which arrives in theatres on January 11, looks like being the ideal Sankranthi film well suited for a family audience.
