Two Malayalam films set to release this weekend

M Padmakumar's Ithu Pathiramanal and Jayan K Cherian's controversial film Papilio Buddha are the two major releases today, March 15, 2013.

Cast: Unni Mukundan, Jayasurya, Remya Nambeesan

The film has been in the making for a while now. Jayasurya was planning to do a double role as both father and son, but after completing the senior's part, he got injured.

Unni Mukundan is now doing the role of the son named Eldho, who has come back to take revenge on the cop who killed his father.

Ghajini star Pradeep Rawat plays the villain and Remya Nambeesan is the heroine.

Unni Mukundan is happy to do the role, as the film has superb action sequences. In fact, Unni is playing the lead in Padmakumar's forthcoming film, Orissa, as well.

"I had read reports of Pathiramanal much before I became part of it, and loved the theme. I think this is one role where I will be noticed for my acting. And, of course, there is action, which I believe is my forte," says the well-built hero.

Ithu Pathiramanal has been scripted by Babu Janardhan, with camerawork by Manoj Pillai.

Papilio Buddha

Cast: Padmapriya, Prakash Bare, Pokkudan, Saritha

Papilio Buddha hogged the headlines when the Censor Board objected to the film for its controversial dialogues and denied the certificate for release. The film speaks out against atrocities on women, dalits and the environment.

The film focuses on a group of dalits who are displaced from their territory, and depicts their struggle. To take on a casteist society, they embrace Buddhism.

Produced by Prakash Bare and Thampy Antony, Papilio Buddha is directed by US based poet and filmmaker Jayan K Cherian. The cinematographer is M J Radhakrishnan.
