Singer turned filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivasan's romantic tale Thattathin Marayathu, Shaji Kailas' Prithviraj starrer Simhasanam and Harinarayanan's Naughty Professor, with Baburaj as the hero, are the three new releases this week.

Here is a closer look at the films.

Thattathin Marayathu

Director: Vineeth Sreenivasan

Cast: Nivin Pauly, Isha Talwar

Vineeth made an impressive debut with Malarvady Arts Club, which was a hit. Nivin Pauly, who played the leader of a gang of friends in the film, gets a makeover and is the lover boy in Thattathin Marayathu.

He plays Vinod, a student and a Hindu, who falls in love with Ayesha, a Muslim girl. Isha Talwar, who makes her debut in Malayalam films, plays the heroine and is a model based in Mumbai.

"It is a simple, romantic story and we sincerely hope that this romantic story is going to attract all. It is based in Thalassery where I originally come from and I am more comfortable when the stories are set there," says Vineeth.

Nivin Pauly has lost weight and shaved off his moustache and beard to look suitably romantic.

Thattathin Marayathu is produced by Sreenivasan and Mukesh under the banner of Lumiere Film Company.

Jomon T John wields the camera and Shaan Rahman is the music director.

Simhasanam

Director: Shaji Kailas

Cast: Prithviraj, Aiswarya Devan, Vandana

Both Shaji Kailas and Prithviraj badly need a hit to get themselves out of the rough patch in their careers. Can Simhasanam work in their favour? Maybe, since this action-and-romance flick has all the traditional ingredients of success.

Aishwarya Devan and Vandana play the heroines. Thilakan, Sai Kumar, Siddique and Manikkuttan are also in the film.

Simhasanam has been scripted by Shaji Kailas himself and produced by S Chandrakumar.

It is the first time that a Shaji Kailas film has Prithviraj as the hero. The two had joined hands for a project titled Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram, which got shelved in between.

Vishnu Namboodiri is the cinematographer and Biji Bal scores the music along with Ronnie Raphael.

Naughty Professor

Director: Harinarayanan

Cast: Baburaj, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy

After the success of Salt N Pepper, Baburaj is one of the hottest properties in Malayalam cinema and everyone wants him to be in their movie.

The baddie turned comedian plays the lead as a college professor obsessed with his looks in director Harinarayanan's Naughty Professor.

Lakshmi Gopalaswamy plays his wife. Tini Tom and Lena play their neighbours.

Baburaj has scripted the film, which has been produced by Arun Jose and Sreekanth Pillai.

Sajeth Menon is the cinematographer and Jassie Gift is the music director.
