2012 has been a mixed bag, when it comes to movies and their fate at the box-office. And yet, there have been some unmistakable winners too. Here's our choice of the best five.
Film: Thuppakki
Cast: Vijay, Kajal Agarwal
Director: A R Murugadoss
A R Murugadoss's action thriller with Vijay playing an army man had the right mix of drama, thrills, and a healthy dose of patriotism, not to mention heroine Kajal Agarwal.
Harris Jeyaraj's foot-tapping numbers added to the appeal of the film which was a clear winner at the box office.
Oru Kal Oru Kannaadi

Director: Rajesh
Director Rajesh has made a name for himself with his comedies centred on Santhanam, his trustworthy comic-hero, and this one too tickled the public's fancy.
Udhayanidhi Stalin made his debut as a hero in the film, which is a light-hearted take on a young man, his tangled love life, and his pretty heroine played by Hansika Motwani.
Santhanam's witty one-liners raked in the moolah. This was a summer blockbuster.
Kalakalappu

Director: Sundar C
This light-hearted comedy is about two brothers, Vimal and Shiva, who struggle to keep their cafe running amidst a comedy of errors and terrors. It's about their respective lovers, Anjali and Oviya. It didn't hurt that Santhanam made an appearance here as well.
Sundarapandian

Director: S R Prabhakaran
What director and producer Sasikumar touches is almost always bound to succeed, it seems. He teamed up with S R Prabhakaran for Sundarapandian, a typical commercial movie with all the spicy elements.
With Lakshmi Menon as the heroine, there were no surprises when the film clicked at the box office.
Naan Ee

Director: Rajamouli
A film with a house-fly as the hero? Scepticism greeted this announcement, so one can imagine the stunned amazement of the film industry when the film caught the public's interest and played to packed houses!
With Nani, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Sudheep playing mere humans in the company of the fly, not to mention the computer graphics no wonder the film was declared a blockbuster, and director S S Rajamouli a miracle-worker.
