Looks like the Indian film industry is in no hurry to come out of the Devdas and Paru hangover. This time it is the Kannada film industry's turn to revisit the classic tale of Devdas, the tragic lover.
But how different will this flick be from the many versions of the story that have come and gone? Well, this film will show Devdas and his Paru getting married, unlike in the original!
This is only one of the many twists in the film, according to director Kiran Govi. Little wonder that the film has been titled Paru W/O Devdas.
"In this film, the focus will be more on Paru than Devdas," says the director.
Star kid Soundarya Jayamala, who debuted opposite Upendra in Godfather, plays Paru. Rashri Ponnappa is also a part of the cast. As for Devdas, it is Srinagar Kitty who will be essaying the role. The actor is a musician in the film."Real Star" Upendra's fans have a reason to rejoice. While they may have to wait a little longer to watch him sizzle in Topiwala, the actor's next release, one of the songs from the film was recently released on a social networking site.
The song Malli malli manchak esht kalu....that has been penned by Yograj Bhat has a retro feel to it. Uppi's look is also distinct as he sports an Elvis Presley avatar. The entire song has been shot at a beach resort in Chennai.
Apart from actors Bhavana, Uppi and Raju Thalikote, a group of 70 dancers feature in this song composed by Harikrishna.
"The song choreographed by Chinni Prakash has gone viral. It received over 10,000 views on the day I uploaded the song. A whopping Rs 60 lakh has been spent on the song and going by the response, looks like the money time and effort was all worth it," says M G Srinivas who has directed the film. The official audio launch will take place soon in a grand manner.
The film is slated for a March release.
Not wanting to take too much of a break post Drama, his recent successful venture, director Yograj Bhat is now said to be scripting a film to be produced by Kari Subbu and Kumar.
It may be recalled that these two supported Bhat in his initial years. However, the films (Mani and Ranga SSLC) produced by them turned out to be box-office failures. It is thus being said that by doing this film for these producers, Bhat wants to make up for the losses that were incurred then.
As of now, the producers have roped in no one but Bhat for the film. Little is being said about the subject or the star cast. However, speculation is rife that this film may bring together Ganesh and Bhat once again. The hit Jodi's last venture together was Gaalipata.
Sudeep, who was the hero of Ranga SSLC, is also being considered. The names of Vijay and Dhruva Sarja are also doing the rounds.
The film is likely to go on the floors in April.
