Sudheer Babu made an impressive debut with SMS (Siva Manasulo Shruthi) which released last year. He took his time to sign his second film.

Now Sudheer is ready with his second film Prema Katha Chitram opposite Nanditha. The film is written and produced by Maruthi and directed by J Prabhakar Reddy.

In this interview, Sudheer gives us a peek into the film releasing on Friday, June 7.

Why did you take some time in signing your second film Prema Katha Chitram?

I wanted to do a film with someone who has experience and has proved himself. I wanted to work with capable people. I wanted a new script. This love story is in a different genre.

Prema Katha Chitram is another love story like SMS. What's different about this one?

This kind of love story has not come before. The story is something rare. There's a thrilling element in it.

'The film is not similar to Anjaana Anjaani'

This film is directed by Prabhakar who also handled the camera...

Maruthi had other commitments. So he planned everything. Since the other projects got delayed, he could dedicate time to this. Prabhakar and Maruthi did it together.

This film will prove that if a good cinematographer gets a good subject, he will do a good job. Prabhakar had Maruthi next to him to correct him, which was advantageous to him. The film looks visually rich.

What's the film about?

It's a love story. The boy and girl do not know each other. They meet through a common friend. They want to commit suicide and a place is set up for that. What happens after that forms the story.

Is it like the Hindi film Anjaana Anjaani?

Not at all. There is a thrilling factor here. There are four main characters in the film.

'Nanditha is a superb talent'

This is the second film for both you and Nanditha, but your are acting together for the first time. How was it working with her?

She is a superb talent. A heroine may get such a film after doing a few other films first, but Nanditha has done such a good job in her second film itself.

There is a remix of Krishna (his father-in-law)'s song Vennelaina Cheekataina. How was it to be part of this song?

Yes. It is a romantic song and has come out well. We maintained that yesteryear charm. In the 1970s-80s, actors used to emote through their eyes. People will be glued to the screen for sure watching this.

Did you feel the pressure doing your second Telugu film?

You do not feel the tension. One is laughing and giving the shot in a relaxed manner. Out of the 60-70 days shoot, 90 per cent was shot at night. Yet we did not feel the strain.

I never had any pressure. Maruthi was near me and I could not be tense when I had the principal next to me.

'As an actor I always have to be on my toes'

Have you taken up any new projects?

I have signed Aadu Magadura Bujji and Mr Mayagadu Malligadu.

How does it feel to be an actor?

It is not an easy job. One has to be on one's toes. It is not as easy as I used to think. After the shoots one has to maintain oneself, watch the diet and update one's skills – fights and dances.

What changes did you make in response to the criticism of your first film?

The most commented was my voice. So I have trained in voice. R P Pattnaik taught me some simple exercises. I have also taken care of my looks and hair styling.
