Cocktail, the Malayalam debut venture of film editor-turned-director Arun Kumar, stars Jayasurya and Anoop Menon in the lead. The film also stars Samvritha Sunil as the heroine.
Shooting of the film is currently going on at Kochi.
"The story is based on certain happenings in the lives of three persons," says Arun Kumar, who has been the editor of quite a few of Priyadarshan's movies, including the director's Hindi project Billu Barber and the National Award-winning Tamil film Kancheevaram.
"It can happen in any city. Jayasurya's character has not been given a particular name. What we mean is, he is more of a representative of all of us and there are certain suspense elements involved which would be unveiled on screen," he adds.
Anoop Menon, who has also written the dialogues for the film based on Shyam Menon's story and screenplay, plays Ravi Abraham, a vice-president of an MNC.
"This is a film which can only be made at this point of time. This cannot be set in the 80s or the 90s as it is absolutely contemporary. Moreover, we have a young team that includes the cast and crew, who are below 30-years-old. It's a youthful theme and it will appeal to all who are young at heart," says Anoop.
In fact, Jayasurya and Anoop were initially planning to produce the film. But later producer Milan Jaleel became interested in the project which is how the film is being made by Galaxy Films.
"We liked the story from the start. It will be an edge-of-the-seat thriller as well as a wholesome entertainer," says Jayasurya.
Jayasurya sports a beard in the film, a look he feels is in keeping with the mystery surrounding the character.
Samvritha Sunil plays Parvathy, who is Ravi Abraham's wife. She is an educated woman and has an important role in the story, says the director.
Pradeep Nair wields the camera for Cocktail. Lyrics by Santosh Varma have been set to the tunes of Alphonse of Aaromale fame.
