Get your lowdown on what's happening in Tamil cinema.

AR Murugadoss's 7 Aum Arivu starring Suriya and Shruti Haasan might not have impressed the critics and audience but both Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth were bowled over by the film.

A special screening was arranged for the two veteran actors and after the show, Kamal hugged and kissed Suriya and exclaimed, "extraordinary film.' A man of few words, superstar Rajni said, 'excellent film.'

More screens for Velayudham

It seems director M Raja's perfect packaging of emotions, sentiments, songs, comedy and action in Velayudham have worked excellently well with the audience. Vijay's comedy scenes with Santhanam and his sentimental scenes with his screen sister, Saranya Mohan were immensely liked by the audience.

Velayudham was initially screened in 500 screens all across Tamil Nadu but the demand for more shows is so much that producer Aascar Ravichandran is planning to have more prints in the market.

The makers of the film never claimed that they were making a classic, and that has worked well with the audience. The film has turned out to be the perfect festival outing for the audience.

It might just happen that in this Diwali race of being the numero uno, Vijay may overtake both Suriya and Shah Rukh Khan at the box office!
