Meet The Austrian Debutante In Spanish Masala

In Lal Jose's forthcoming film, Spanish Masala, Dileep's heroine is a beauty from Austria named Daniela Zacherl.

She plays Camilla, the daughter of a Spanish diplomat who has worked in India, and she fondly remembers those days.

Daniela, a professional dancer and model, is herself quite amazed that her foray into movies happened via an Indian film.

In an exclusive interview with Meghna George during the shooting of the film in Kochi, the gorgeous Daniela talked about her maiden venture and also about her future plans.

How did films happen for you?

Actually I am a professional dancer and am involved in ballet, modern dance and hip hop. I have also done modelling and theatre.
I always wanted to do movies and it is through an agency that the offer for Spanish Masala came to me.

'I didn't have any knowledge about India'

What was your first reaction when you were offered the heroine's part in Spanish Masala?

Frankly, I didn't have any knowledge about India or the films here. But after they contacted me, I did some research and found out that those involved in Spanish Masala are indeed some big names here.

It was exciting to work with the crew from a different country and I wanted to know more about Indian culture. I love travelling and that was another attraction to accept the film.

What about your character, Camilla, in the film?

Camilla has a wide variety to her personality. She is soft, calm and also moody at times.

She has spent her childhood years in India and is aware about the culture of the land.

'There were no starry airs during the shoot'

How was your experience shooting for the film?

It was great being part of the film. The unit was really helpful whenever there was a problem, and there were really no starry airs. 

Did you enjoy dancing for the film?

Of course, I loved it. I am aware that Kerala has a rich tradition of dance and I know about dance forms like Kathakali, for instance.

Now that you have tried your hand at acting, which is tougher, dancing or acting?

I think dancing is tougher as you have to be more disciplined when you are a dancer.

'Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon is my favourite film'

Which is your favourite movie?

I love watching movies and there are too many to select. Okay, I would say, Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon.

What do you love to do, other than acting and dancing?

I love to spend time with my friends, travel, explore new cultures, yoga, sports, skiing, reading... lots of things actually. I love walking through cities and I think, only then you can get the smell of the city.

Looking back, are you happy that you decided to accept Spanish Masala?
(Smiles) Of course. I feel so great that I have done the film.
