Are you a perfect Huduga Hudugi?
Director Indrajit Lankesh is searching for the best huduga and hudugi (boy and girl) in town as part of promotions for his upcoming Kannada flick Huduga Hudugi.
Participants will be given a minute each to bring out their inherent talents, be it in dance, music or acting.
"We will basically be looking at their screen presence. The event will be held on October 22 in Town Hall, Bangalore. Three celebrities will judge the event. Winners will be cast in my next film," says Indrajit.
Indrajit shakes a leg
Not wanting to leave any stone unturned to publicise his film, the director has also shot a promotional video. While this is a common concept in the Hindi film industry, this is a first of its kind experiment in Kannada films.
What's more is that Indrajit himself will be seen dancing with a trained Irish dancer in this lounge mix.
"Apart from her, dancers and models from Mumbai and Bangalore and Ms Bangalore, Nicole, have featured in the video. We are planning to release it in a week's time. Cinematographer Santosh Rai Pathaje was particularly roped in to shoot this song," says the director who also has the credit of having had a Kannada film (Monalisa) released in a multiplex for the first time, not to mention the launch of Deepika Padukone in films and giving Upendra a never seen before sophisticated make-over.
A preview
The film unit also recently organised a fashion show to showcase the costumes that the actors have worn in the film.
"The intention was to convey the essence and style of our film. To give viewers an added taste of the film, models walked the ramp to the music of the film," adds Indrajit.
Speaking of music, the director has also composed two songs for the film.
"While Joshua Shridhar has composed four tracks, I have done the music for two songs. His songs mostly have a hip hop feel while mine are melodious. The songs that I have composed are situational. One of them has been used in the climax. I have no plans of becoming a music director though! It's just that I started humming a few tunes, liked it, called my group of musicians and worked on composing the two songs. I haven't even taken credit for the songs in the audio CDs," he adds.
Pretty guests
The songs have been extensively shot on the virgin beaches across the Goa-Maharashtra border. White sand, blue sky, some beautiful caves and forts is what you'll get to see in the songs.
A song also features south siren Illena. The film will see many other heroines making a guest appearance as well.
While Lekha Washington is said to be the main lead opposite hero Dhyan, Sada, Anita, Bianca Desai and Sanjana are also part of the project.
Huduga Hudugi is a romantic comedy set against a TV backdrop. The main protagonists will be shown working as TV professionals. The film will have a fun take on astrology, reality shows and other entertainment programmes. It will also showcase the lives of married couple working in the same office.
'I did a Hindi film and it wasn't a pleasant experience'
Dhyan, the director says, was an apt choice for the male lead. "He is young and suits the lover boy role well. I don't think any other star would have fit the role. I did approach a few other actors but due to date problems, things didn't fall into place. Also, as I had given a hit film with Dhyan, I decided to cast him. Anyway I choose actors based on my script and not their market value."
So why this three-year gap before returning to direction?
"As you all know I did a Hindi film and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I just took time to come out of it. Also, I have never made films for the sake of money. Direction is my passion and I wish every film of mine to be creative... so what's the hurry?"
