After giving hit films like Matta and Eddelu Manjunatha, award winning director Guruprasad is gearing up for something 'special' yet again. He recently launched Director's Special, a film with the Kannada film industry as the subject matter.

"I don't intend to attack any individual through this film, it's just my message to the industry as a disappointed audience," says Guru.

The film also speaks of what happens when small dreams go unfulfilled.

This being a Bangalore-centric film, the director also says that the city will be picturised in a never seen before way.

Comedian and Matta and Eddelu Manjunatha hero Jageesh's brother Komal were initially roped in to play the leads but now Guru is making the film with an entirely new cast.

"After Komal backed out, I lost almost six months. I had to start anew. However the concept remains the same, it's just that there have been character corrections. I have four newcomers in mind and will soon select one among them as the hero. I am on the lookout for a fresh face to play my heroine, Bhagya's, role as well. I'm scouting Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore in this regard," he says.

Going by the launch ceremony, it's going to be the director's show all the way. Guru even had volunteers sporting T-shirts with his picture. He is seen holding a pen in the picture thus indicating the importance and power of a script and director. "I hope to show how films are a director's medium," he says.

Further, the venue was decked up with pictures of famous directors that the industry has seen. It also comes as no surprise that Guru chose Puttana Kanagal Hall to launch the film.

"He is my favourite director and this was my way of seeking his blessings," he says, adding, "I dedicate this film to all my favorite directors".

The film is being produced by Govinda. "I was to direct a film for him with Vishnuvardhan. But unfortunately the actor passed away before things fell in place. Instead of that project, I am collaborating with Govinda on Director's Special," says Guru. He also says that he will utilise international film making techniques in the film. Actor Tabla Naani is assisting Guru in direction. First timer Badal Nanjundswamy is the art director.

The film will have five songs. "Each song will be very situational and won't be more than three and a half minutes so as to avoid a break in the flow of the story," says Guru. Anup Silin is the music director. A song on the Kannada film industry has also been composed. Along with Guru, Yograj Bhat, Jayanth Kaikini, M N Vyasa Rao and Manohar have written the lyrics.

On the occasion of the launch, Guru also released Director's Special... Cinema maadalaagada Kathegalu mathitara lekhanagalu a book authored by him.  Actors Ravichandran, Ambareesh, Srinagara Kitty, Raghavendra Rajkumar, lyricist Kaikini and directors Suri and Seetharam, were among those who attended the event.
