Prabhu Solomon has titled his next film Kumki, which means training elephants, and the film is about the friendship between an elephant and a mahout. There is also a story of young love intertwined in the plot.
Prabhu Solomon said the film was a tribute to elephants as 2011 happens to be the year of the elephant. "Every day you read in the papers that elephants enter villages. It set me thinking: why do they leave their homes and enter man's territory? It is only because man has encroached into their homes. Their routes are destroyed by deforestation. We are actually a problem to the animals and not vice versa."Sivaji Ganesan's grandson and Prabhu's son, Vikram Prabhu is the mahout in the film. Vikram has studied film technology at the New York Film Academy in the US.
On selecting him as the hero, Prabu Solomon said, "I searched for my hero for almost six months. I happened to see his photo unexpectedly and I felt he fit the role perfectly. He will grow a beard to look like a mahout. He has been training in gymnastics and also went to Ottappalam to be trained as a mahout. In the film, he will be with an elephant most of the time."
