Break-ups are like nightmares nobody wants to go through again.
While most regular people avoid the sight of their ex, the young stars of Bollywood choose not to make a big deal out of it.
Not only are some of them on good terms with their erstwhile sweethearts but some are willing to romance them on big screen like nothing ever happened.
Whether it's a magnanimous heart or practical approach to work, we don't know. But actors who put aside their differences or a bitter past to collaborate on a film are likely to benefit. Also, it always feels lighter when not holding grudges.
Here's a look at some of Bollywood's hottest pairs, who worked together even after they ceased to be a couple in real life.
Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Both made their debut in November 2007 in different films, which met distinctly different fates, but found an instant connection in each other.
They made no effort to conceal their relationship and the chemistry sizzled for all to see in both Bachna Ae Haseeno and public appearances.
Eventually the strain of being a celebrity couple and working with other actors in close proximity put too much pressure on the duo and they decided to call it splits.
Being level-headed though, Ranbir and Deepika realised to focus on their inherent fondness and mutual respect for each other. And that's what makes them such a treat to watch on screen yet again in the promising promos of Karan Johar's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
Salman Khan is the last person to discuss matters of the heart with the press.
And Katrina Kaif is no Ms Candid either.
Their personal equation stayed strictly personal until they decided to demonstrate their fondness on the Shah Rukh Khan-hosted season of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The Wanted star helped a struggling Kat to find her footing in the industry after a disastrous debut in Boom. They worked on hits like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Partner before she went on to become the most sought-after leading heroines of Bollywood.
But Katrina's sudden declaration, 'I am single' at a press conference brought things out in the open. And while the mercurial Salman is known to make snide remarks at her in public, Katrina maintains a dignified stance.
Despite their bumpy off-screen interactions, they clicked wonderfully in Ek Tha Tiger.
Super models Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu fell in love while working on the hit Raaz.
Though their relationship didn't last too long, they share a genuine friendship that's lasted over the years. He even attended the screening of Raaz 3 to show his support.
Previously too, they worked on films like Rakht and Chehraa even though they were no longer a couple and Bips had moved on with John Abraham.
Though Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja chose to be hush-hush about their romance, the word eventually got out after she replaced Kareena Kapoor in his debut Love Story 2050.
Both the film and their relationship bombed.
But being professionals, they didn't want to let their heartbreak come in the way of a meaty project like Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Rashee?
Too bad this didn't work either. But looks like the warmth continues considering the hug PC gave her former beau at a recent awards function in Canada.
Sparks flew instantly between this reportedly on and off couple while filming Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey.
And while everyone raved about their on-screen chemistry, things seem to heat up off it as well.
After doing a Ross-Rachel and some coffee commercials, the neighbours-turned-couple decided they're just not into each other.
That, however, made little difference when Kunal Kohli offered them triple roles in his period-to-contemporary romance caper, Teri Meri Kahaani.
For all their professionalism, the chemistry this time was just not the same and TMK turned out to be a huge dud.
Everybody thought of them as Bollywood's most stable couples but right before the release of Jab We Met, Kareena Kapoor surprised everyone by leaving Shahid and almost immediately moving on with Saif Ali Khan.
While Shahid tried to keep it decent, it was visibly awkward for them to promote the film together, which went on to become a landmark in both of their careers. She also didn't give up her vegetarian lifestyle, which she adopted from her ex.
But it was the long-delayed project Milenge Milenge that suffered the most from their separation.
Ultimately, they decided to put their animosity aside and shoot some publicity material. The poster, though, is a glaring indication of their reluctance to get back together -- for a movie or otherwise.
Today, Kareena is happily married to Saif while the still solo Shahid wishes her well.
Of course, they maintain the beaten to death 'good friends' stance but everyone knows things apparently brewed between the Band Baaja Baraat couple for a while.
And just as promptly cooled off when they both realised they want to concentrate on their respective careers and have a good time.
The 'good friends' continued to work on Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl without letting their personal feelings/feuds get in the way.
So now, Ranveer gets linked with co-stars Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha whereas Anushka finds her name constantly tagged alongside Ranbir Kapoor, with whom she's slated to work on Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet.
The good-looking couple became an instant hit with the glossies courtesy their willingness to strike hot poses and give quotable quotes gushing about each other.
But Akki's roving eye and Raveena's need for commitment put an end to this mast-mast jodi.
They came together years later for Madhur Bhandarkar's Aan: Men At Work, which, except for the climax, had no scenes featuring them together.
At this point, things are amiable between the Khiladi and his former girlfriends, Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty and Pooja Batra.
It was a fairy-tale marriage between a reigning superstar and the Bobby sensation that crumbled after the young Dimple Kapadia could no longer handle Rajesh Khanna's increasing insecurity and tantrums.
Though she lived separately with two wonderful daughters -- Twinkle and Rinkie -- Dimple was generous enough to campaign when he turned to politics or play his leading lady in the late Khanna's directorial venture that never took off, Jai Shiv Shankar.
