Thousands of Rajesh Khanna fans braved the rainy weather, as they waited outside the home of India's first superstar at Carter Road, Bandra, a western suburban in Mumbai, to pay their last respects.
Khanna made his final journey from his home to the Pawan Hans crematorium at Vile Parle, in suburban Mumbai, where the last rites took place at 11 am.
Khanna's nine-year-old grandson Aarav -- son of Akshay Kumar and Twinkle -- performed the last rites.
Khanna's body was placed in a glass casket in a truck, covered with white flowers.
As fans walked with the convoy, they threw flowers at the casket, and some even shed tears.
Dimple Kapadia, Akshay Kumar with son Aarav, Rinke Khanna and her husband Sameer Saran accompanied the superstar. Twinkle, who is pregnant, stayed home.

There were quite a few incidents at Pavan Hans, when the growing crowds could not get a glimpse of their favourite star.
Some people started shouting slogans, and tried to break through the barricades, forcing the police to use lathicharge and control the crowd.
Amitabh Bachchan, who worked with Rajesh Khanna in Anand and Namak Haram, arrived on foot with his son Abhishek, which made the crowds go hysterical, as they tried to catch a glimpse.

Randhir Kapoor was accompanied with younger brother Rajiv (not in the picture), as they paid their last respects.
Director Sajid Khan, a close friend of Akshay Kumar, spent a long time at the venue.
Shakti Kapoor seemed visibly upset as he made his way to the crematorium.
Shekhar Suman was also spotted at the venue.
