One of the hottest actresses down south, Shriya Saran will turn 29 on Sunday, September 11.

Before getting into films, Shriya appeared in Renoo Nathan's music video Thirakti Kyun Hawa.

She started her modelling career by acting in a Ponds advertisement. She followed it up with an ad for Fair & Lovely.

In 2003, Saran made her Bollywood debut with a supporting role in Tujhe Meri Kasam, along with newcomers Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza. The film went on to become a hit.

Even though Shriya has achieved a lot in the south industry, she hasn't seen much success in Bollywood. Her films Mission Istanbul, Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart and Ek - the Power of One all bombed at the box office.

Not many know that Shriya has a Bachelors' degree in Literature.

Her father worked for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and her mother was a Chemistry teacher in Delhi Public School, Haridwar.

Her subject was the history of films, and films as a medium of cultural exchange.
