The South Indian film industry’s most exclusive club. The 80s Reunion Club s held its first get-together in 2009 hosted by Suhasini Maniratnam and Lissy Priyadarshan.
The only rule for membership to the club was that it was exclusively for actors who had entered the film industry in the 1980s. No spouse or outsiders could be present at the get-togethers that became an annual tradition.
The fifth get-together was held on Saturday, January 18, at Mohanlal’s beachfront home in Injambakkam on the East Coast Road between Chennai and Pondicherry.
The gathering was a star studded affair as 32 actors including superstars like Rajnikanth, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Revathi, Radhika, Radha, Ambika, Nadiya, Ramya Krishnan, Kushboo, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Lissy Priyadarshan and the organiser, Suhasini turned up for the gathering.
The theme of the party was Hawaiian, so bright printed shirts and leis were much in evidence. A portrait artist supervised by Mohanlal sketched portraits of all the participants, and collector’s edition paintings were given as take-home gifts.
Mohanlal also entertained his guests with a magic show.
At one such get-together Chiranjeevi, now a Union minister, had asked everyone to send their childhood photos, which he had compiled into a slideshow that was played at the party.
Among the prominent actors who did not attend the annual shindig were Kamal Hassan, Nagarjuna and Mammooty.
