PIX: Actress Mamta Mohandas weds

Malayalam actress Mamta Mohandas got married to her childhood friend, a Bahrain-based businessman, Prajith Padmanabhan, on December 28 in a hotel in Kozhikode, Kerala.

She got engaged to Prajith on 11-11-2011 in her hometown in a very private function.

Last year, Mamta fought cancer bravely and came out of it unscathed. The story of her courage and determination has become an inspiration to many who battle the disease.

Even while undergoing chemotherapy, she would shoot her films wearing a wig.

Mamta grew up in Bahrain and did her schooling there. She continued her college education in Bangalore.

That was when she was spotted by well known filmmaker Hariharan for his Malayalam film Mayookham. Mayookham didn't do that well but Mamta was noticed.

Mamta has acted with all the Malayalam superstars. Her explosive scenes with Suresh Gopi in Lanka shocked the Malayali audience when it released in 2006. It was followed by rumours of an affair with Suresh Gopi, which almost wrecked his married life.

She then moved to the Telugu film industry where she got interesting roles. Music directors like Devi Sri Prasad made use of her singing ability in playback singing -- she is a trained Carnatic and Hindustani singer.

Mamta returned to Malayalam cinema in 2009. This time, she was greeted with success in the form of films like Passenger, Race and Kadha Thudarunnu.

Her most interesting forthcoming release will be Arike, directed by noted director Shyamaprasad.
