Star couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol will be surrounded by a bunch of animated characters in Toonpur Ka Superrhero, their newest film which releases on December 24.

Ajay portrays Aditya a movie star and Kajol his wife Priya. The actor and his wife have everything they could ever want. However, their kids dream of having a normal father who is a hero in real life. A loving father who is a reel life hero accidentally lands in the world of cartoons and becomes a real life hero.

Ajay says Toonpur Ka Superrhero is a comedy and an added attraction are the animated characters. "Most of the animated films are mostly targeted for children and does not excite adults but this film will appeal to both children as wells as adults," he says while promoting the film in Mumbai.

"Kids today have lot of exposure to the outside world. Everything is available on the Internet at the click of a button." adds Kajol.

'We rarely agree on the scripts'

Ajay and Kajol were last seen together three years ago in his directorial debut U Me Aur Hum. They are rarely seen together onscreen. So what excited them to do an animated film?

Kajol explains, "We rarely agree on the scripts. The ones which motivated him didn't excite me so it has to be few films over the years [smiles]".

Ajay adds: "Both of us liked the script of this film but at the same time we were also thinking how Kirit (Khurana, the director) would deliver it because it was a first live animation film. We were impressed when he created a sequence to show how it would look".

'If this film works, it will be a boost to Indian animation industry'

Kajol and Ajay admitted that it was difficult shooting for the animation film. "Imagine we were in a green room fighting and reacting to all the props around us. That was really funny and also tough."

"The producer of Who Framed Roger Rabbit was known to Kirit and they were shown some portions of the film during their visit to Mumbai. He was fascinated with the result and said that he didn't expect something like this to be made in India. He said 'your actors deserve Oscars for the performance because they also know how difficult it is to perform'. This was exactly his line," says Ajay

He adds, "If this film works, it will be a boost to Indian animation industry"

'Nobody can beat Batman and Superman not even Ajay who plays a superhero in Toonpur'

Every kid has their favourite superrhero. Asked about their favourite superheroes as children, Kajol says, "Undoubtedly Superman and Batman, they are eternals classics. Nobody can beat them not even Ajay who plays a superhero in Toonpur [chuckles]. I have read all the comics as a kid and now have watched all the films too"

Apart from the above Kajol childhood comic books included Tinkle, Phantom and Bahadur.

Ajay says his all time favourite is Tom and Jerry and loves watching it with his daughter Nysa.

Asked what his daughter thinks of Toonpur, Ajay says, "She has not seen it yet. We are waiting for the final print. She has seen some portions and liked them."

'No point comparing Tees Maar Khan and Toonpur'

Toonpur Ka Superrhero releases on the same days as Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan. So is Ajay nervous?

"Not really. Our film is well made and we are confident that people will like it. You hardly get a solo week of the release (Christmas vacation). There is no point of comparing the two because the genre of our film is very different," he says.
