Director James Cameron has topped the 2010 Hollywood movie earners' list, courtesy the worldwide box office success of his movie Avatar.Cameron earned an estimated 257 million dollars last year for writing, producing and directing his 3D hit Avatar, based on its worldwide 2010 box-office gross of 1.95 billion dollars, as well as his share of DVD and pay-television sales, according to a Vanity Fair survey of the top 40 Hollywood earners in 2010, reports Stuff.co.nz.
Johnny Depp scored the No. 2 spot, earning 100 million dollars after collecting pay cheques from films including Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist, as well as up front payments for the next Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which is due for release in May.
Director Steven Spielberg took the third spot, earning 80 million dollars for Universal theme-park royalties in addition to consulting fees for War Horse.

Kristen Stewart has reportedly turned down an offer from Director Zack Snyder to play the role of Lois Lane in the new Superman reboot.
According to a source close to Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel, Stewart recently met with the filmmaker and his wife, Deborah.
A source said that although the director was interested in offering her the part, the Twilight star turned it down.
The source said, 'was "caught off guard" by the success of that film franchise and wasn't ready to leap into a similar situation just yet,' reports the New York Daily News.
Instead, the source said, Stewart professed an interest in "smaller, independent films." (Stewart's spokeswoman said only that she "did not read for the part" and declined to elaborate.)
The source added that Stewart's response made him feel 'slighted'.
Another insider close to the actress says she hasn't ruled out the title role in director Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman, which is to begin filming this summer.
Christina Aguilera is not shy of revealing her curves and this time she really grabbed the spotlight.

Nicole Kidman has revealed that she never thought she'd find love again after her high profile split with Tom Cruise 10 years ago.
The actress is now happily settled with second husband country singer Keith Urban and two daughters, Sunday Rose (2) and newborn Faith Margaret, who was carried via a surrogate mother.

The Coen Brothers are reportedly planning a remake of the 1966 film Gambit.
And they have apparently recruited Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth for the remake.
The Coens will write and produce the revamp, while The Last Station's Michael Hoffman will helm the project, reports the Daily Express.
According to Deadline.com, Firth will take on Michael Caine's role as an art conman, while Diaz will play his sidekick -- a role originally played by Shirley McClain.
The film's shooting commences in London in May this year.
The White Stripes have finally decided to go their own ways, it has emerged.
They said they will "make no further new recordings or perform live," reports the BBC.
The Detroit duo of Jack and Meg White thanked their fans and added that they were calling it a day for a "myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band."
The group was formed 13 years ago and released five studio albums.
The band headlined a number of major UK festivals including Glastonbury in 2005.
Jack and Meg said it was not "due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues".
The statement said they hoped the news would not be met with "sorrow" from fans but seen as a "positive move".
Farrah Fawcett's legendary red swimsuit is reportedly being donated to Washington's Smithsonian Museum.
Farrah was the sex symbol of her time and the most recognizable image of the 1970s, reports the BBC.
She had worn the swimsuit in a popular poolside poster -- shot by photographer Bruce McBroom -- in 1976, which apparently sold millions of copies.
At the time Fawcett was aged 29 and was said to have liked wearing the one-piece because it covered a scar she got as a child.
The late star's partner Ryan O'Neal is also handing over copies of scripts for the first season of Charlie's Angels and a 1977 Fawcett doll.
Other items O'Neal will also donate to the US institution include a Fawcett swimsuit jigsaw puzzle, a special 1976 edition of TV Guide featuring the actress, and a Farrah Glamour Centre hairstyling toy.
The screen star died in 2009 at the age of 62. She had been suffering from cancer.
